Pianist Matthias Gräff-Schestag devotes himself primarily to chamber music and song. After his studies at the University of Mainz he continued in Piano at the Musikhochschule Frankfurt am Main. There he majored in chamber music and song interpretation with Prof. Hartmut Höll, Rainer Hoffmann and Joachim Volkmann.
During his studies, but also by participating in numerous chamber music and song interpretation master classes (Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Dr. Erik Werba, Brigitte Fassbaender, Gérard Souzay, Dalton Baldwin), Matthias Gräff-Schestag was able to acquire a broad repertoire encompassing all styles and periods, while concentrating especially on song literature from the romantic and modern classical periods.
Matthias Gräff-Schestag accompanies singers of international reputation and works with well known instrumental soloists. He appears frequently in concert in Germany and abroad and is to be heard on many radio, TV and CD recordings.
Matthias Gräff-Schestag has headed the chamber music and song interpretation department at the Akademie für Tonkunst in Darmstadt since 1987 and is Assistant Professor for Chamber Music at the Musikhochschule Frankfurt.
